List of Natural Pregnancy Tests That You Can Try at Home

Overview

Long before women peed on sticks, several homemade pregnancy tests were previously used by women in the medieval period. Although there are natural situations that may help develop assumptions of pregnancy like the old-school vomiting scenes at the bathroom, delayed menstrual period, and irregular pulse rate, women still can’t wait to learn about their pregnancy as early as possible. Hence, various forms of homemade pregnancy testing were discovered in different parts of the world particularly from ancient Egypt, the Persian Empire (currently known as Iran), and Europe.

Benefits

Ever since homemade pregnancy tests were invented, their influence hasn’t stopped from the origins alone. The beliefs and procedures started to reach across the globe and soon acquired by different races. Despite the presence of newly-invented forms of pregnancy tests including the miraculous ultrasound device that determines the pregnancy status and reveals the baby’s gender, some people are still considering the natural ways.

While medical experts are doubting the accuracy of natural tests, some people still  find them more beneficial to take the traditional ways especially if the suspected pregnancy is unplanned:

  • The natural pregnancy test is much cheaper than pregnancy testing kits.
  • The test can be made with ingredients that are available at home.
  • The test can save the person (especially minors) from the embarrassment of purchasing pregnancy kits at the store.
  • The test is beneficial for people living in remote areas with no access to hospitals or local stores.

The following list includes a few of the many natural pregnancy tests that you can try at home. For accurate results, use only the precise amount of ingredients and a sample of your first urine in the morning.

Shampoo Pregnancy Test

What you need:

A sterilized mixing bowl

2 drops of shampoo

Water

Urine sample

How to do it:

Mix two drops of shampoo with some water in a clean bowl to produce a soapy solution.

Stir gently to avoid too much foaming.

Add a few drops of the urine sample.

Observe the result instantly.

How to determine the result:

You may be pregnant if the solution starts to produce bubbles. Whereas, observing no reaction indicates that you are not.

Sugar Pregnancy Test

What you need:

A sterilized mixing bowl

2 tbsps of white sugar

Urine Sample

How to do it:

Put two tablespoons of white sugar in a clean bowl.

Add the urine sample.

Observe how the sugar crystals react from the urine.

Wait for 3-5  minutes to see the result.

How to determine the result:

A positive sign shows when sugar crystals stay at the bottom and form into solid masses. While a negative sign is confirmed when the sugar gets dissolved. This means that a woman’s urine doesn’t contain the HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) hormone which prevents the sugar from dissolving.

Wheat and Barley Pregnancy Test

What you need:

A sterilized mixing bowl

Pieces of wheat and barley seeds

Urine sample

How to do it:

Mix the collected wheat and barley seeds in a clean bowl.

Pour the urine sample.

Set aside for some couple of days before jumping into a conclusion.

How to determine the result:

You may expect a baby if the seeds grow in the given timeframe. Otherwise, no seed germinations would mean that there is no pregnancy.

Dandelion Leaves Pregnancy Test

What you need:

Pieces of fresh dandelion leaves

A plastic sheet

Urine sample

How to do it:

Place the leaves on a clean plastic sheet.

Pour the urine sample on the leaves and let them submerge.

Observe the mixture for ten minutes.

How to determine the result:

If the leaves turn into reddish brown, you are most likely to be pregnant. Showing no changes means you’re not.

Urine Pregnancy Test

What you need:

A sterilized glass jar

Urine sample

How to do it:

Store the urine sample in a clean glass jar for 24 hours.

Make sure to cover the container before setting aside.

Observe the other day.

How to determine the result:

There is a high probability of positive sign if you notice a thin layer on the urine sample’s surface. Showing no such layer indicates a negative sign of pregnancy.

Tuna and Vinegar Pregnancy Test

What you need:

A sterilized glass jar

¼ cup of canned tuna juice

¼ cup of vinegar

Urine sample

How to do it:

Strain at least ¼ cup of juice from the canned tuna.

Pour the juice in a clean glass jar.

Add the vinegar then cover.

Set aside for 24 hours.

Add the urine sample the next day.

Wait for a couple of minutes for the result.

How to determine the result:

The mixture will turn into dark green if you are pregnant; otherwise, it’ll turn into yellow-orange.
